Virginia Woolf, born Adeline Virginia Stephen on January 25, 1882, remains a central figure in modernist literature. Woolf was a prominent member of the Bloomsbury Group, whose members were influential British writers, intellectuals, philosophers, and artists (Lee, 1997). She married Leonard Woolf in 1912, and together they founded the Hogarth Press, which published much of her work and that of other modernist thinkers. Woolf's literary contributions were notable for their experimental approach to narrative structure and their exploration of characters' thoughts and perceptions, a style termed 'stream of consciousness.' 'The Waves' (1931) stands as one of Woolf's most avant-garde works, exemplifying these techniques. It employs a soliloquy-like narrative where six characters' inner thoughts and feelings intertwine with the motion of the titular waves, creating a unique rhythmic literature that defies traditional novelistic form.
